Matthias, I disagree with John's seeming dismissal of David Walker with, "He has as unquenchable thirst for attention and boundless self-importance." John a lot of us have that "hitch in our giddy-up". The important thing is do we effectively do what we're supposed to do.

I think David Walker did what he was supposed to do.

A single payer health care system, or "Medicare for all" as it is sometimes euphemistically called for marketing purposes, would be the final blow to the government's finances. The last thing we need is socialization / nationalization of a major part of the economy.

I do not care that much about his personality, but about his message. And John, despite criticism of the person, confirms that he is right in his assessment of the finances of the US and Medicare. I had suspected that a long time.

few, if any, GAO employees will miss Walker. he is an aloof, heavy-handed, holier-than-thou manager and his legacy at GAO is being the guy who made it possible for a union to get voted in because of the lies he told employees about their pay. There was great joy at GAO last Friday. I wish him well in his new endeavors and think he is correct about the financial situation of the US, but he needs for it to be about HIM, not GAO. He has as unquenchable thirst for attention and boundless self-importance.
